The kids had a roarin' good time this week with Dinosaurs! We pretended to be Archeologists and Paleontologists. They went on a dinosaur dig, found dinosaur fossils and brought them to the dinosaur lab to scientifically explore each fossil. We learned the difference between a herbivore and a carnivore, played with many different dinosaurs, created a dinosaur scene and hatched their very own dinosaur from an egg (or frozen water). To end the week they were able to see how long a diplodocus was (89 feet) and learned that it was longer than all of us put together! It was a stompin' good time!!

The past two weeks have been all about Thanksgiving, farms and turkeys. The kids really worked on their cutting skills this week, cutting out turkeys and turkey feathers to create some cute turkey art. Run Turkey Run was one of our favorite stories. The kids were able to help me read and they also helped the turkey run away from the farmer so Turkey was not Thanksgiving dinner! 10 Fat Turkeys was a silly number stories about turkeys doing some very silly things! They all loved doing the 'noodle dance'.
Thank you so much to all of our V.I.P's. I enjoyed meeting everyone. This was a wonderful way for all of our preschool friends to celebrate Thanksgiving!

Happy Halloween! Monday was a great day and I think everyone had a fun Halloween celebration. Ghosts, Spiders, Frankensteins and Haunted Houses. What a fun few weeks of Halloween! We definitely used our skills creating Frankensteins. Our stories were filled with all kinds of Halloween creatures. Franklin's Halloween was a fun story about dressing up and having fun at a Halloween party (just like we did). Inside a House that is Haunted is a great party story and I love watching all the kids participate. Thank you so much to everyone who came in to enjoy our party with us and to all of you who sent in the yummy treats. Our party was a huge success because of you! Mrs. Slack and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Hopefully everyone had a great Halloween!
We ended the week focusing on the 4 seasons. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer! Everyday we experienced what each season has to offer. The kids had fun dressing up and exploring all of the 4 seasons in home living. They worked very hard this week counting fall leaves, winter snowflakes and spring flower petals and then writing out the number they just counted. We ended the week by pretending to be Mother Nature with one of our favorite activities-the parachute. We blew away one season and welcomed in the next. It is very hard remembering what each season has to offer, but everyone did a great job.
We are still looking for those Turkey feathers to come in and dress our classroom Turkey.
Also, if you have not done so already, please turn in the V.I.P sheet and volunteer forms. I do not want anyone to be left out!!

Keeping up with the fall theme, this week was all about pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. At the beginning of the week, we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin as we read the story Pumpkin, Pumpkin. Exploring a pumpkin was a fun way to introduce our 5 senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch) Everyone had fun working with Mrs. Slack and talking about exactly how we use each of our 5 senses. Eating pumpkin donuts was a delicious way to use our sense of taste. Yummy!
After listening to the story The Runaway Pumpkin we created our own thumpin' bumpin' pumpkin. Everyone worked very hard cutting out their own pumpkin and creating a Jack-o-lantern. Mrs. Slack brought in lots of different pumpkins for us to explore. We were able to compare and contrast how pumpkins are the same and how they are different. Through our group discussion they were able to see many different shapes, sizes and colors. There was even a white pumpkin!

We continued the fall theme through to this week. This week we were busy like the squirrels in the fall, finding 10 acorns, putting acorns in number order, painting an acorn and singing about the 'Gray Squirrel' as we swished our busy tails.
We also focused on apples this week. We looked for number apples 0-10 on an apple tree, colored in little squares on an apple and pin poking our names on an apple (working on building up those fine motor skills). We became illustrators this week as we colored the apples in our book I See Apples and we talked about what we would do under an apple tree after reading the story Under the Apple Tree. We ended the week by finding a secret shape inside an apple (a STAR) and making a yummy apple snack!

Red, Yellow, Orange and Brown. The leaves are falling all around! Fall was the focus of our week. It was a perfect week for introducing the fall season. We were able to look out our classroom window and see the changes that are taking place. During our large group discussion, we created a list of many fun things to do in the fall-look at the fall colors, play and jump in the leaves, help our dad's rake leaves, and pick apples and pumpkins, play football and get ready for Halloween. Parachute play was a great way to end our Fall week as we acted our '5 Little Leaves' and blew all the leaves away. We read a very silly story The Little Old Lady who Swallowed Some Leaves. While using picture props as a group, we discovered she swallowed all the parts of a scarecrow and had fun putting him together. "Happy Fall"

Wow! What a great first full week of school! We have been working hard getting to know each other, learning our friends names and learning about our classroom.
Our week was filled with fun activities, songs and stories and School was everywhere. We pretended to be students and teachers in homeliving, we put stickers around a school, cut out and glued school items and words and spent some time at the writing center writing school words! Reading stories will be a big part of our day this year. Everyone loved hearing the story about the Little Old Lady who likes to eat lots of different things (we will be meeting her a lot this year) and one of the favorite books this week was Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes. We had to listen to this one many times because it was so much fun.
This week we also talked about how to be great at school. As a class we will be practicing 3 simple school rules--HELP, SHARE & CARE. We will be working all year to be a great friend and to be the best we can be!
