Your little one is going to work so hard this year and I am sure you will be so proud of all they will accomplish! They will be learning many different things; letters and sound, number recognition, counting, writing, drawing, singing, vocabulary, sight words, sharing, playing, listening, reading...!! And on and on and on :)
I will be in contact with families through my newsletters, calendars and this weebly site, letting everyone know what we are working on and how you can help at home.

Counting to 20 can be tricky and getting through the teens can be a bit challenging. To help at home-place 20 objects (or more if they are ready) on the table and have your child count by moving one object at a time over to a new place as they say a number. Let them count as high as they can without making a mistake and help them with the numbers once they begin to struggle.

We have been working on writing names and will continue all year long. As you may have seen, we ask the students to write their names using capital letters. The Handwriting Without Tears program we use tells us that forming capital letters at the preschool level is easier than forming lower case letters. This is a philosophy that I use in the classroom . Please continue to reinforce this at home as well.

Two new sight words- I and see. These words were in our books "I See Apples" and "I See Pumpkins" The kids love to find these words in print as I read a story, write on the white board or even as they are independently reading. Please help reinforce their knowledge by letting them read their books we sent home to you and by pointing out these words during your at home reading time. Thanks for all you do

This week we focused on the letter in the word FALL and were introduced to the sight word the and The. We worked in our journals this week writing the capital letter L. Our focus during journal writing will be to look at the students grip and letter formation. To properly form a letter each student will be asked to "start at the top and drop down". Hand writing Without Tears focuses on 4 simple terms. "Big Line" "Little Line" "Big Curve" and "Little Curve". We will also focus on finding the Top, Middle and Bottom of a line. Your child will be hearing these phrases a lot from me this year as we work together to begin forming great letters.

For the past 2 weeks we have talked a lot about letters and how putting letters together spell words. We are especially focusing on the letters in our names and specifically the first letter of our name. Continue to help out by taking opportunities to look at letters that are in your child's name while riding in the car, shopping, eating and reading.
We were also introduced to the first sight word of the year 'I'. Make sure to point this word out to them during reading time. Your child will be introduced to a number of sight words this year and with your help at home these words will become easy for your child to recognize and read
